Who's Gerry

Curiosity goes beyond just figuring out the problem you’re solving. And I hope to keep that curiosity going because that is the inspiration.

After a fifty-year career in the retail Pharmacy industry, I’ve worked in executive retail operations business development roles with Shoppers Drug Mart and the Pharmacy wholesaler Kohl & Frisch. I helped companies and individuals develop marketplace strategies to create, engage, and keep customers for life. I believe in helping people achieve leadership, professional, and business success using my skills as a business/analyst and teacher of business fundamentals.

Strategic goal-setting is the compass that guides successful projects and entrepreneurial endeavours. I’ve been a regular lecturer at UBC Pharmacy, a workshop/seminar leader at Small Business BC, Access and SUCCESS Immigration services; and as a business columnist/blogger for several national publications. My volunteer activities have included mentoring pharmacy students, medical students, and women entrepreneurs at The Forum.

Staying curious and learning new things are important to me.  I’ve always enjoyed doing DIY projects and woodworking, so I learned wood turning on a lathe. Over the past few years, it’s become an absolute passion.

Originally from Winnipeg, my wife and I were long-time residents of the North Shore. We have two married adult daughters who have gone through university and are now building careers and lives of their own. We are now living in White Rock: in my spare time I enjoy growing roses; we like the arts, live music & theatre, all sports, growing vegetables, and healthy cooking.

I come from immigrant parents who worked hard to make a life here. They passed on to me the value of working hard and smart. How treating people with respect and being truthful is important.

A fun fact about me is that I always had a secret idea that I’d like to be a sound engineer working the mixing board for a rock band.

Clients I've worked with

I'm on my Victory Lap. I have skills that I still very much enjoy using and love the challenge of solving problems. Woodworking and woodturning is the joy I discovered to fulfil that curiosity.
